HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAYS FROM LISA GILMORE DESIGN!

At the end of every year, I really love to reflect on what it has brought to the table. 2017 was truly a great year! Filled with many amazing spaces, people and events. Celebrations, progress and cultivating great relationships.

Every year I get a little overwhelmed with emotion, just thinking about how lucky I am that my passion has turned into a career and thriving business. To have a team so loyal that loves this as much as I do. I am forever grateful. To our amazing clients who believe in us and are so excited to work with us and create some truly kickass spaces. To our vendors and subcontractors that take those wild ideas and make it happen, it might be a sloppy sketch on a napkin that turns into a beautiful piece of furniture or the perfect fabric to cover the sexiest sofa. Whatever the detail is, large or small, we can't do it without all these valuable team players.

So here is a little mashup of 2017, some really great moments and spaces that will always be special to us.

We installed our first boutique hotel, Hotel Cabana Clearwater Beach, this 1950's gem will always have a spot in our hearts and that dreary rainy install will always make me smile.

SO many fabulous presentations, install days, pattern mixing, events, design brainstorms, conferences throughout the country, fabric stories, oh my goodness the list could go on!

Thank you, thank you, thank you: clients, vendors, sub contractors, family and friends for all of your continued support. We are so grateful for an amazing 2017 and have no doubt that 2018 has so much more in store, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping make this dream a reality every day! EXPLORING BOSTON'S ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN HISTORY

As a born and raised New Englander, there are few cities that make my little design heart flutter quite like Boston. It’s a city full of architectural and design inspiration, with a new period of history coming alive at every turn of a corner. From cobble street and brick covered, colonial Faneuil Hall, to the Italianate and Gothic Revival churches and public buildings in the heart of downtown, and the art deco skyscrapers of the financial district - Boston really knows how to make my creative juices get excited. I recently went back to explore for the weekend and gathered some photographs of my favorite corners of this magical city.

The Boston Public Library is one of my favorite hidden gems of downtown Boston. From the outside it looks very stately and grand already, but when you walk inside you feel like you’re stepping into a palace - in fact it was called the "Palace of the People" when it was first designed in the late 1800's. Designed with inspiration from Paris’s Bibliothèque Sainte-Geneviève , it’s interior is covered in decadent marble, ornately carved archways, and murals by famous painter John Singer Sargent.

I could live in here if you let me!!! I could see using inspiration from this for a grand foyer or entrance way to a home with some of these elements. Upon further exploration, the library opens up to a large Romanesque courtyard right in the middle of the building, complete with classical music playing live from students of Berklee (College of Music).

Perhaps my all time favorite piece of design inspiration in all of Boston though is the Isabella Stewart Gardner Estate and Museum. Tucked away in the Fenway-Kenmore district of Boston, this Venetian Palazzo style palace houses one of the world’s largest collections of artwork and furniture from all periods of history. Isabella was a huge patron of the arts, leaving her entire estate to the city of Boston for public enjoyment - with one exception; absolutely nothing can be moved from where she left it.

Every single inch of this estate is covered in a piece of art, and each room pays homage to specific period in art history. The most amazing part to me? The arboretum centered inside the estate, changed seasonally with specific plants and flora to match. Her estate inspires me to be more playful with ornate and decorative items - it’s exciting to see the little details in every little piece of furniture, ceiling tiles, lighting fixtures, rugs, and even wall coverings made of hand woven silk. This was a woman who was not afraid to be bold!

While Boston is filled with incredible design inspiration spots, these are just a couple of my very favorites - I hope you found a little something to inspire you, or perhaps help you to find your own design inspiration on your next traveling adventure!

DESIGN PROJECT:: COZY CHIC HOME THEATER

DESIGN TOUR OF A TAILORED HOME THEATER

It's that time of year, when the temperatures are dropping and the nights are much cooler, and I'm not sure about you, but sometimes a night at home with a movie and a cozy blanket are just what is needed!

Earlier this year we completed this great home theater in North Tampa. Our client wanted a place to relax, have family time and be a show stopper for entertaining.

We were inspired by old movies, glam elements and classic movie vibes. So we got to work!

Initially this space was just a simple beige box. We kicked it up a notch and designed custom wainscoting to fit perfectly around the homeowners collection of movie posters. We added some sconces for additional ambient lighting and painting the ceiling and trim work to really pull the space in.

We also decided to have a custom bar built in to the backside of the movie theater seating. Adding a lot more space for entertaining and gatherings.

This part was really fun, we wanted to create that old cinematography feel, so together with our carpentar, elecetrician and one of our favorite artist we came up with the beauty.

I don't know about you, but I can honestly say that I became pretty smitten with this gold herringbone tile, pretty quickly. So we mixed it with this great smokey subway tile, to create a striking detail.

Personal touches make a space so important. Creating those stories that will be fun to tell to your guests! Along with the collection of movie posters, we commissioned this custom piece by the incredibly talented Rebekah Lazaridis to greet guests as they walked up the stairs into the landing. The perfect art deco vibe to set the tone! (PS- she also painted that amazing font over the concessions bar.)

Overall, I think the goal was achieved! A cozy, chic space for entertaining, family time and friends. The perfect balance of art deco glam, movies and modern touches!

TASSELS, TASSELS, EVERYWHERE!

THE BEST WAYS TO INCORPORATE TASSELS IN YOUR INTERIOR AND FASHION!

Tis the season for parties, presents, and TASSELS! As the resident prepster, tassels have been in my life since birth but in design, they did take a backseat for a bit when the minimalistic style was on the rage. Don’t get me wrong, there is such thing as too much tassel but hopefully with my help you will be able to incorporate tassels into your decor, wardrobe, and life.

When adding tassels into your home, an understated tassel used as a trim to a pillow is the way to go. One of our favorite trim companies, Samuel & Son’s makes a leather tassel from their Toscana Collection that is TO DIE FOR. I would put it simply on a single corner of a pillow.

I found Maynest on Etsy.com that makes these gorgeous leather pillows with tassel accents.

A perfectly placed tassel can be cherry on top of a beautiful piece like the Ro Sham Beaux Malibu 30 chandelier.

Tassels do not have to be design accents, they can be the goal. This Kelly Wearstler Strada Small Chandelier for Circa Lighting. Looks like a gold tassel. I would used multiples of these lights over a large kitchen island.

Let’s move onto an important place that tassels need to be… YOUR CLOSET! I found this simple faux suede & metal tassel necklace from J.Crew Factory on Black Friday and it is perfect for almost any outfit.

And let’s not forget where I wear my tassels most, on my shoes!! The classic loafer is coming in every color and finish this season. And throw a tassel on top and this girl is going to rock it!

One last place to always put a tassel on it, is your holiday gift wrapping! Yarn tassels are an easy, inexpensive way to top your gifts. Check out this fabulous blog for DIY tassels to jazz up your gift wrapping!
