Before & After: A Kitchen Goes from Boring to Elevated

The kitchen has been called The Heart of the Home, which may be why it is one of the most popular areas to renovate.

For most homeowners, having the kitchen reflect their personality and lifestyle is very important. That’s why the Lisa Gilmore Designs team was excited to partner with the homeowners on this complete kitchen renovation.

First, let’s look at the kitchen before the project started.

This space was truly a whitewashed, blank canvas that was ready for an artist to infuse with life.

Now, for the finished look.

Our team was able to add texture and color to the kitchen while keeping the light, neutral color palette that the homeowners wanted.

We used small touches to elevate the space-- from the gold hardware, to the kitchen nook art and lighting, to the colorful floor rug.

And, we outfitted the kitchen nook with a curved banquet to make best use of the space, rather than forcing an oversized table to fit.

It is possible to add style to a kitchen even if you aren’t ready to demo everything and start from scratch. Try these tips and tricks:

  • Paint: Changing your wall color or cabinet color is one of the least expensive ways to change the look of your kitchen.

  • Cabinet Hardware: Adding new handles and drawer pulls is an upgrade anyone can do that packs a big punch.

  • Accessories: Incorporate texture, color, and pattern into your kitchen with accessories like accent rugs or art, as well as furniture pieces like barstools.

  • Lighting: Kitchens are one of the rooms in a home where great lighting is key. Updating light fixtures or adding undercabinet lighting can completely change the look and function of your kitchen.

Just a few small changes can make a significant difference in your kitchen and allow it to become a space you enjoy.
