This week is the legendary Dorothy Draper's birthday, she was born November 22, 1889. Myself, fellow interior designers and decorators around the globe have this visionary woman to thank for paving the way for future careers.
In 1923 she professionalized the industry by launching the first interior design company in the United States and also at a daring time for a woman to go into business for herself. She broke the barriers of the typical "period rooms" decorators had done before her, she created the style "Modern Baroque" -- which I am personally grateful for!
Here are a few of her interiors that inspire us...
One of my favorite pieces of furniture known as the "Dorothy Draper Chest", such a classic piece.
I love the chest so much, it was used for a bar set up in my client's Hollywood Regency style residence.
Happy birthday Dorothy Draper, thank you for paving the way!
